Preparing for Motoring Industry Job Interviews

Preparation

Gain as much information on the company and the position before the interview as you can.

Consider any issues that the job may present:

• Salary - if the stated salary is way out of your ballpark, tell the consultant in advance and let them see how much negotiation there may be
• Travel - if practical, test the journey out before the interview and if you think it's a problem, talk to the consultant. Travel is usually non-negotiable
• Working hours - there may be some negotiation on working hours depending on the role. Always be as flexible as you possibly can!

The Interview

• Be on time - punctuality makes the best impression
• Be quietly confident and assured - even if you don't feel it!
• Be a good listener and be genuinely interested in what is said to you. Your replies count!
• Show enthusiasm for the job
• Utilise your good qualities, be kind, gracious and understanding, even if the employer is late, aggravating or rude. It's possible they are testing your people handling skills.
• Never speak disparagingly about a previous employer.
• Emphasise key experience you have stated in your CV that would be relevant to the job.

After The Interview

Call your consultant and give feedback on how things have gone and also to confirm your interest in the position

The Job Offer

• Answer a job offer promptly - probably an initial reply by telephone is best to save time.
• Consider the offer carefully to avoid misunderstandings, which will be harder to resolve later.
• Follow up on any written offer with a full acceptance in writing.
